Why Everyone Should Watch Leonardo DiCaprio’s Climate Change Documentary

Garden of Earthly Delights by Hieronymus Bosch

I just finished watching Leonardo DiCaprio’s new movie, Before The Flood, WOW… Just wow.

This is the type of movie you want to share with everyone. A movie everyone should watch and reflect on its message. Why? Because it’s about a topic that is affecting all of us, and will eventually lead our species into unparalleled chaos (if we don’t do anything about it).

Time is running out. So click the link below, watch it, share it, comment, and do something about it.

What’s it about?

Before the Flood is a documentary made by National Geographic and Leonardo DiCaprio in which they highlight the areas in the world most affected by climate change, the science behind it, vested interests, politics, and potential solutions to mitigate and even reverse this trend.

The film is named after the middle panel of the painting on the top of this post—Humankind before the Flood—which  Leo says acts as a warning to the world of what could come next, if we fail to act on climate change.

Why DiCaprio, you might ask?

Well, for starters, he’s been drawing attention to environmental issues for years. And in September of 2014, he was named a United Nations Ambassador of Peace.

For this documentary, he spent the last three years looking for answers for this catastrophic issue, which is already amongst us. He talked to a wide variety of people about the subject, including President Obama, Elon Musk, and even the Pope.

Why should you watch it?

Apparently, we, as humans, don’t seem to be able to grasp the magnitude of the problem that climate change represents. It seems that we are too small to understand how big our impact is on the planet. We are not aware of the amount of damage we are causing to the earth on a daily basis, and how the negative impacts are already playing out.

For instance, we are not conscious that every time we turn on our car, eat meat, or even send an email; we are contributing to climate change. We’re just not wired to think that way. That’s why we a massive, individual effort needs to be made by each and every one of us to be more conscious about the harm we’re causing the planet. Because if we don’t, the world in which we live in will be drastically different than it is today, and in a bad way.

It’s already changing. We’ve stripped a vast amount of resources from the earth, killing more than half of the species sharing this planet with us. If we keep this up, we’re the only ones that are going to be left. And that’s not a pretty picture, who knows how long we’ll be able to survive in that scenario.

So, why should you worry?

Because we actually have the power to stop this and reverse this trend. There are solutions out there that are ready to be implemented today. One of the solutions talked about in the movie is switching the way we power our planet, from fossil fuels to renewable energy. That’s one way you can get involved and help stop the world sucking up and burning all our fossil fuels.

The movie puts the problem into perspective. This is why I think it’s so important everyone watches the movie. I’ve been following the growth of renewables and the deepening problems of climate change for a while. But when I saw the movie, it hit me in a different way. It’s one thing to read it on your phone or your computer, but it’s another thing to watch the whole story, uninterrupted, in a very well made film. I think this movie has the potential to change our consuming habits and hopefully leave this world a better place for our children.

You can watch the entire film right here.

Tell all your friends about it. Get involved. There is no other issue that is more important than this. We have to act now.
